Two of a Kind
Rod composed his beautiful and evocative song in honor of his wife Renee. The music is in inspired by his memories and emotions of his time with her.
This lovely ballad reflects the good times and the sad times of this relationship.
Due Wes
Rod wrote this tune for his first jazz guitar idol, Wes Montgomery. Rod heard Wes play at the Kansas City Jazz Festival in 1968 near the end of Wes’s too short life. Rod gravitated to Wes’s use of octaves and found it very helpful as he developed his own style of jazz guitar.
Just One More Time with You
This song is dedicated to the great Nat King Cole and all of the wonderful aesthetic that he brought to his renditions of the great American songbook.
Great Scott
This song is dedicated to the owner and operator of Green Lady Lounge, John Scott. John’s support for original compositions has spurred Rod to compose many of the tunes on his recent recordings.
Some Steps
This song is based on the jazz classic Giant Steps by John Coltrane. Rod’s goal was to make the melody singable. Rod reharmonizes the chord changes to freshen up these challenging but classic jazz chord changes.
The Invite
Rod wrote this composition for bassist Gerald Spaits, and Gerald is featured on the melody.
Wing Ding
This feel good groove song has become a theme for the band. It features a brief sing along and has become the set closing theme of the Rod Fleeman Trio.
